i'm lucky enough to have a husband that doesn't care that i took over what was supposed to be our formal dining room and made it into my workspace. or as my kid's call it, "mom's craft room." it's a happy, colorful space and i feel like it reflects the kind of work i enjoy making. you won't see any floor shots on this studio tour because it's too messy with stacks and packages of SURTEX preparation.
over the years and through many bouts of being intensely into various crafts like sewing, quilting, painting, illustrating, mixed media, i've realized that my space works best for me if i sort of compartmentalize areas. almost like stations in a classroom.
i have my computer area where i draw, scan, work digitally on my mac, and print. i have lots of inspiring images taped to the wall where i spend hours a day.
i have another table where i paint and work on my mixed media pieces. i always have a stack of canvases drying under my table, in various stages of completion. i like to keep my very favorite supplies right on the desk for easy access.
and of course it wouldn't be a room of mine without books! and bright toys!
i have a little mailing and art journaling station. i keep my washi tape collection, scissors, stapler, notepads, mailing tape and cute journaling supplies here. if i need to whip up a cute card or package, this is where it happens!
i love, love, love quilting fabric (can't wait to see my designs on bolt fabric someday i hope!). here is a blurry (sorry!) picture of just a small part of my collection. organized by color.
and last but not least, my kids love to visit so i have some things in here for them. they love to play with the little animals. and in the tin bucket i have a few fun games for them to play. my youngest loves to play with the pincushion, sticking the pins in all sorts of lovely patterns. (don't worry, she's almost seven, and she doesn't get stuck with pins anymore after that first time.) they love coming in and sitting on the floor by me as i work. and i usually love having them around. hahaha.
hope you enjoyed the little tour. wish you could come by for real and we would have some chocolate chips.
